French painter and sculptor, from a wealthy Parisian family. One of the greatest draughtsmen of all time, he successfully bridged the gap between the old master tradition and modernity. His main subjects were Parisian life and also developed various themes such as racehorses, women ironing bathing or buying hats and the well known ballet dancers.
Things to notice in his paintings: Each painting shows a self-contained and self-absorbed world, whatever he was painting. Notice the people in the paintings give nothing away...distant expressions.
Psychological Assessment: Shy, haughty, insular and single.
Fact: He had amazing colour sensitivity even when he was old and nearly blind.
